Question:
Where can I find a good IRC channel to talk about science? Forums are nice, but a conversation is better.?

I'm a biochemistry undergraduate student and often while reading about the subject matter many questions pop up in my head that I would very much like to discuss with other people casually. I love talking to people on IRC channels because of the "group involvement" and the ability to talk to individuals.

Does anyone know of any good IRC channels for science or any good websites to search for them (tried the usual google and such)

There is a #physics room, maybe your server doesn't carry it?

Here is a list of chemistry rooms:

You might be able to find other specialties by googling "irc channel "

Here's one for weather:

I always notice that when you're good friends with someone, it shouldn't matter if the conversation runs to an end. If you can be silent in each others' company, I find that's how you know that you're truly comfortable with someone. If you still desire conversation starters, then I guess you could ask her about what she plans to do at the weekend or bring up something that you experienced that might cause amusement. But really - if you can talk to each other about anything and everything, then you should be able to mutually be at ease when a conversation streams to a halt.
