Question:
Evolution vs. Intelligent Design?
2006-02-17 09:13:19 UTC
Can anyone give OBJECTIVE evidence (facts), not opinions or assumptions, that disprove intelligent design or support macroevolution? Again, this is not about MICROevolution, which has been proven. MACROevolution is the theory that animals and other organisms can evolve into different species over time. I don't want opinions!

Organic evolution is a change over time in the proportions of individual organisms differeing genetically in one or more traits. These changes transpire by the origin and subsequent alteration of the frequencies of genotypes from generation to generation within populations, by alteration of the proportions of genetically differentiated populations within a species, or by changes in the numbers of the species with different characteristics, thereby altering the frequency of one or more traits within a higher taxon.

The net result is descent with modification. Intelligent Design proves nothing because it cannot be proven with experiments which form no educated predictions nor hypotheses. To prove there is a God one would look at E=mcsquared. We know what c and E are but someone had to make or present the m.

Fossils are sufficient evidence in which some resemble ape like ancestors. Human and Chimp DNA are 99.4% identical in protein-coding segments and 98.4% identity overall. Realize that any human is related to any other human by 99.9%. Therefore in structural genes, we differ by only 0.5% from the chimp. If you want more ask, email me at rossman_2003@yahoo.com

To answer, simple: evolution. Creationism and Intelligent Design have no argument other than "God did it". The vast majority of creationists spend their time trying to disprove or discredit evolution rather than building a scientific case for their beliefs. "First I want to say this: that even most scientists will admit "that evolution is a theory, not a fact. Why? because it has not been proven." Actually, evolution itself is an confirmed, observable fact. The theory aspect of it is how it operated. "The Second Law of Thermodynamics/The Law of Entropy states that everything tends toward disorder. This is a law that Scientists discovered and know to be true." Yes, that holds in a closed system. The Earth is not a closed system, and it has an huge external power generator. "Also, if evolution is true, where did the first cell come from? Not to mention, the earth, the sun, our entire solar system, the Milky Way Galexy, and the universe as a whole. I somehow doubt that the big bang could create all of that by chance. And even if it did, what/who caused the big bang? These are all questions that evolutionist scientists can't answer. I find these questions to be to big for me to believe these scientists. There are, however, Scientists that believe in ID and they can answer all of these questions." The theory of evolution does not make statements of either the origins of life or the origin of the universe. Those would abiogenesis and the Big Bang theory. "I honestly believe that it takes more faith to believe in evolution than intelligent design." No it doesn't. The evidence for evolution is well documented around the world. You only need to look it up. The "evidence" for Creationism is the Bible and appeal to emotion argument of "look around you, it's evident". "People say that the similarities in different animals are reason to believe in evolution. But if their was an intelligent designer of the world, it would make sense that they would use some of the same types of designs in different animals." Irrelevant "If you look at how buildings and bridges are made, they both have similar things in them. They often are both made with triangles. Why? because they help strengthen the structure. They also both use similar metals and other materials because they work well. Why would an intelligent designer not use the same principle when creating all the different animals in the world?" Why do humans have a vestigial organ that pretty much gets infected and can kill you? Why do our eyes have a blind spot on them due to our blood veins being backwards, when squids have perfect vision? Why do we have little toes? Why are some human babies born without faces? (Treacher Collins Syndrome) Why are some human babies born with tail bones? Why do whales have small leg bones?

No indesputable evidence exists for either side. However, intellegent design is not a theory on how we got here so much as a "theory" on why evolution is not possible. Proponents of ID make the argument that, because of the repeating patterns and complexity of patterns found in nature, random mutation and adaptation cannot account for them.

These patterns are too ordered, and hence must have been designed or planned for by some intellect cappable of understanding the pattern.

So, there really is no debate here. One theory came from a religious man trying to explain the beauty and diversity of his world. The other came from a group trying to defend their belief in where we came from and why.

Don't forget, Darwin was the first to praise god for creating such marvelous creatures that could change to so many wonderfully new things.

Your question will not be answered for another 20-50 thousand years. Until then, everything i have written is fact and the only amount of it you will get until we record evolution on tape. Even then, sadly, someone, somewhere, will say the tape is fake or transported here by satanic aliens.

Whatever it takes to set science back another thousand years.

If science is wrong we have lost all that we know to be true with our 5 senses. If religion is wrong we have lost only what was believed to be true with the sixth.

How can you disprove it? The design is not intelligent, it's reactionary. Some mammals are wandering around on the plains of Africa. One day, one of them is born (through mutation) with a slightly longer snout. This makes it a little easier for him to suck up bugs and seeds from the ground. Another animal is born with a slightly longer neck, allowing him to eat slightly more leaves than the others, giving him a slightly better chance at survival and producing more little animals that look just like him, long necks and all. So you end up with anteaters and giraffes.

I'm not using evolution to destroy the concept of God. I am submitting that if you believe in God, you can accept that He is smart enough to set evolution in motion, and let it take care of itself. If He doesn't let us get stronger, faster, or better, then He'll be left with useless lumps of mush.

Good Luck!

Intelligent design might eventually become an accepted scientific theory, when it can demonstrate that it has the same sort of explanatory power and predictive power that evolution has shown. However, it has a long long long ways to go before it can do that. All of the "evidence" for intelligent design can easily be refuted, and has been. If you allow a magic wand to come in and fix everything, then of course you can explain everything. But that is not science.

Someone else has gotten frustrated at the battle between the two opposing viewpoints. His reaction is both funny and interesting. He's started a religion! The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.
