Why is it called the Recycle Bin ?

Stuff put into there is expired, ready for permanent termination, deletion.

Only the information remaining on computer is actually recycling during its retention period.

Shouldn't the Recycle Bin be renamed to Deletion Queue OR
Termination Bin ?

It's a hard stretch to say even the pattern energy is being restored to the cosmos and would require a discussion by physicists and may not be true. I doubt any energy at all is saved or created when things are deleted.

Whereas All Information Retained is actually eligible for continual recycling (information processing).

Maybe Retention Terminator is a better name?

The pattern changes, but the information is lost, not thrown overboard either.

The intelligence part is irretrievable, gone forever.

How about Going Gone Bin ?

Perhaps it's because it takes the amount of space placed into it (files) and recycles it back into empty space? Thus the name Recycle Bin.

Or perhaps you've just put too much thought into it.

Compare a trash can to a paper shredder. If you decide to throw something away, say a piece of paper, you can wad it up and throw it in the can (If you later discover that was a winning lottery ticket, you can dig through the other trash and get it back.) or you can put the piece of paper through the shredder and it is gone forever. Microsoft went with the first option. The file is out of your working folders, but if you need it back, if you have not emptied the Recycle Bin, it is still there with all the junk files. You can "Recycle Files" back to your working folder, if you need to.

It has nothing to do with energy. People know what a recycle bin is. It's a politically popular term. And yes, the real purpose is to grant you a grace period to decide you really didn't want to delete it after all.

Theres a lot of things about windows we all wonder "why?" This is one of them.

I know on Mac it's called the trash, which makes a lot more sense.
