First what are dreams? Second, why do we have them?

People born blind do dream, but those dreams are based on what they have sensed before -- textures, sounds, smells and tastes. (I surmise in that order too).

I'll answer the first question, but scientists are still figuring out the second one. Dreams coincide with your brain being active while you sleep. Neurons, the cells of the brain, sends and receives nerve impulses, almost like a cascade or a "random" screen-saver. Why? There might be a hint in the fact we go crazy and die if we don't sleep. And we sleep to dream. It may be like re-booting your computer now and then. It puts all the files back in their respective folders, resets all the registers, and organizes your information.

Ooops, its getting late, I need to reboot my computer.

Why wont a blind see a dream. Ofcourse he will see. Well most of them have misconception that dreams are those only what we see and if blind cant see then he wont have dreams, thats totally wrong. Blind also can see dreams. Dreams are thoughts which we think whole day and finally see at night in form of dreams. Dreams are our desires which we want to fulfill and so we see them getting done in from of dreams. Hence sometimes we say that dreams are not true. it means what ever u want cant be obtained from ur Dreams.

I blind man dreams wud be different from ours but finally he too dreams about something which he wants. Like someday he gets vision. This might be a dream for him.

If dream is a replay of your daily experiences in a mixed up mode then the person who is born blind will have dreams that are a replay of their daily experiences as a blind person. Those images will be replayed in some fashion which the blind person will translate into something meaning for himself. The representation of these dreams will be different but will certainly make sense to the blind person.

i once asked a blind man that question. he said that he thought that he did sometimes. But in all actuality, there is really no way to tell. This goes to a philosphical question of whether or not the color red and what makes something red, look like the red that you see. There is no way to tell.

Blind people have dreams using the same type of senses that people with sight have, only as they have lost one, they become more in tune with there other senses, and use them in place of sight.

so his dream may just be what you would dream about with your eyes closed... rather the eyes in your dream that is.. heh

People born blind do not see visual dreams. However the same needn't be true for those who've become blind after birth.

People born blind generally have a "very high percentage of gustatory, olfactory, and tactual sensory references", i.e. taste, smell and touch play significant roles in their dreams.

I know for sure that information can be send to visual cortex weather or not one is having his/ her eyes opened. If so, i think dreams are possible too (with or without colour we do have representations in mind, because of the other senses and our brain abilities...)

nope.when u r sleeping ur mind is sorting out info u get in the day.a person who is blind does not get info on what is colour, thus in this person's dream, there will be only sound....
