did anyone see that Scooby-Doo episonde where they are on red beards ship? They put dry ice in water to make smoke. Did anyone try this before? Did it work? Is the fog safe?

It does work, it is very easy. The fog is safe as long as you don't stick your face in it and breathe hard for a long period of time because you will suffocate (the fog is pure CO2).

actually you cannot see the CO2
the fog is real water moisture fog from the water vapor in the air that is cooled by the "dry ice". The shell around the solid Carbon Dioxide is real water ice that freezes as soon as it touches the CO2
the temperature of the solid CO2 is much lower then liquid water
The water is hot like fire compared to the dry ice. Heat goes from the water to the solid CO2. the water freezes, the CO2 sublimates. that is it goes directly from solid to vapor without melting
any moisture in the air where the CO2 escapes also cools into water drops called fog ( not smoke)
The big danger is freezing your hands, not breathing the gas. wear gloves or use tongs to handle the dry ice.
I think you need a parent or adult to supervise so you do not hurt yourself

It works really well for short periods of time. The "smoke" will billow out, but will only last several seconds. As it disappears more billowing mist will replace it, so it is a cool effect. Also, the fog will sink to the ground, so if it's cool out you will have a nice ground fog, just like in spooky movies.
How to do it? Drop a piece of dry ice into water. That's all. It will work better if it's warm water.
