Hello, i'm going to write a report called "The determination of blood alcohol by Gas liquid chromatography (GLC) and statistical analysis of the results''

i need to write an abstract, my question is, is an abstract just a summary? would i just explain what Gas liquid chromatography is? i have no idea how to start the abstract, does anyone know how i could do this? what does a abstract need to be made up of?

Please help, thank you

If you do a Google search for "writing an abstract" you will get lots of good resources with tips for writing abstracts.

Just remember that the abstract is one of the most important parts of a paper - far more people will read your abstract than will ever read the full paper. It should contain a summary of the entire paper, including the purpose, background, methods, quantitative results and uncertainties, and conclusions.

There is no need to go into all the details in an abstract, the people who read abstracts are all well aware of the state of the art in methods and aims.

You will be writing for co-workers in the field.

So it would go something like this.

''A new study by the wassnames method confirms some recent anomalous findings reported by Freddy Fagpacket and Norma Nutter(1)and new data expands the boundaries of the phenomena."

Believe me the people in the know will be asking for reprints before you have a cup of what you fancy. They would know as much or more than you about the apparatus except in the case that the NEW APPARATUS is the big thing that brings about more reliable results.

The (1) would be a reference quoted by you relating to the subject you are reporting on.

It's like a short summary, designed to tell other scientists why they ought to read your paper. It should make it obvious why the paper is interesting and relevant.

People researching the topic area use abstracts to decide whether reading your paper will help them with their own studies.

that is not needed or sturdy practice to point interior the detect that you statistically analyzed the outcomes. do not start up a detect with "The." do not comprise abbreviations in a detect. do not capitalize "gasoline." Your detect might want to favor to be something like "determination of blood alcohol content by technique of way of gasoline liquid chromatography." An summary is extremely a summary of the significant severe outcomes, and that is extremely certain. only briefly talk about the factors and proposals. attempt to maintain the summary to diminish than 2 hundred words.
