Our day is considered to begin at midnight, making that 12 a.m., and to run through the next twenty-four hours, ending with the last moment of 11:59 p.m. If this doesn't make much sense, and you wonder why the day shouldn't begin with "one" instead of "twelve," consider this. If you're born at a certain moment, you're not a year old until a year later, and then you would call yourself "one." Likewise, if a new day is born at midnight, it's not an hour old unil an hour later, and we call it "one in the morning."

The confusion arises when we call the 12:30 at night or at noon "twelve thirty in the morning or in the afternoon" instead of just "thirty" in the morning or in the afternoon as it might more logically, but ambiguously, be called. After all, if we cleared up that logical point, we'd have to call 12:10 in the afternoon "ten in the afternoon"!

It is considered midnight, but though in the military circles, that time is 0000, or zero hundred hours.
