Corals look like plants, and they don't move around like a lot of animals, but they are animals. What we see as branches actually are whole colonies of coral animals. Each animal, called a polyp, has a hard skeleton and a soft body. This is attached to rock, or to the skeletons of dead polyps. What we sometimes see as flowers actually are the tentacles with which they capture food from the water. One of the main differences between plants and animals is that plants make their own food, whereas animals must eat plants or other animals.
Coral are extremely ancient animals that evolved into reef-building forms over the last 25 million years. Coral reefs are among the most biologically diverse regions on Earth. Only tropical rainforests might provide homes for more species of plant and animal life. Even though they cover only a tiny fraction (less than .2 percent) of the ocean's bottom, coral reefs contain more than 25 percent of all marine life.

a plant and animal, infact the are formed by a series of algea(plant, which is single cell) and polyps (animal) this algea combines with other organisms, such as the polyp (that are not plants) and are sealed by a calcium. the calcium forms the hard base of the coral. corals, as single cell algea use sunlight (photosyntesis) in the same way as landbased plants do, but because light is filtered by water they often do not appear green but because of the use of sunlight they form better in shallower water. hense, why it is possible to explore coral reefs by using a snorkel or just in ur trunks. u can find out more on Wikipedia (any search engine)

Coral is classed as Animal - it's a collection of tiny organisms.

Actually "coral" is neither. The coral that forms reefs and such is made up of the skeletal remains of tiny, worm-like animals generically known as coral polyps. Coral is NOT a plant.

Coral is an animal. It builds a shell around itself to protect itself from predators. What we see is actually its shell and not the creature itself.
