how would someone calculate what a 400 is on a 100 question exam such as is available to study for the ASCP on labce.com. Would 55 out of 100 questions on a labce.com be equal to at least a 400 on the ASCP exam? I received a 55 on my exit exam for the class final. Most everyone I talked to got in the low to mid 40's on the same exam. I got an A in the class overall, as well as hired at the hospital. On the labce.com I got a 57 on my first attempt. I am just curious what this score equates to as far as trying to compare it to the ASCP required 400 score for passing. I obviously need to study much more in blood banking. Not saying I am trying to avoid studying. Thanks.

It seems to be a very complicated system, based on a bank of questions of varying degrees of difficulty. You are started with an easy question. If you get it right you are given a harder question. This goes on until you answer wrongly, when you get asked an easier question again. At the end they add up the correct answers with bonuses for difficulty. There is then a statistical process which is not fully explained, called scaling, which is supposed to balance something or other out, because each candidate has in effect taken a different exam. My suspicion is that the scaling might also be used to ensure that neither too many nor too few people pass the exam. There is therefore no correlation at all with other practice exams.

Good luck.
