The gas mentioned by answerer 3 is ethylene, and the paper bag is correct.



The other factors are temperature, humidity, enclosure of the fruit, other fruit around near,

Once the fruit is picked, it ripens faster if it is in a paper bag. It turns out that fruit emits a gas as it ripens, and that gas also speeds up the ripening, so the paper bag, which concentrates the gas.



I'll look up the gas name... Actually, it is two, ethylene and carbon dioxide.

these would be the same factors which encourage growth and flourishing of a plant, ie., nutritious soil, warm weather, water, and adequate sunlight. .
