i know what 2dB/decade means, but i'm a little confused on what 6dB/octave means

It means that the output decreases by 6 decibels each time the frequency goes up or down one octave (by a factor of 2). This is the rate that many filters drop off after they pass the cutoff frequency, and is about the same as 20 db/decade. A low-pass filter slopes off as the frequency increases, and a high-pass filter drops off as the frequency decreases.
