Diamond is harder than steel, as diamond can scratch steel, but steel can't scratch diamond.
However, I think steel is more structurally stable than diamond. Besides, how can you afford diamond girders, not even mentioning the impossibility of making a diamond that large.

Diamond is harder than steel, which is why it will scratch steel. But hardness is not the same thing as strength. If you hit a diamond with a hammer it will shatter. Steel won't.

diamonds are hard, not strong....
steel is strong and "can" be hard
you might want to spend more time researching the terms strong and hard ratherthan speculating about diamonds and steel
I cant BELIEVE the number of people who think diamonds are strong... this is TOTALLY worng... if I smack a diamond gently with a hammer, it will shatter into dust... that is its strength.... very very weak... steel you can pound on all day and it wont even dent... that is its strength.... but if you want to cut steel you use a diamond drill bit, because diamonds are HARD and CUT.... if you want to cut a diamond, you cant use steel... steel wont hold its edge, it will blunt and dull and round against the hard surface of a diamond

Because diamonds are denser but a lot more brittle they would break if used the same as most steel also they are vary rare so useing them in mass production would be redecliously expencive.
