None of the above.

It is cheaper than flying a real aircraft AND you can set-up dangerous flight conditions without risking the life of the student, the instructor or the cost of a crashed aircraft.

Famous Example: What should a pilot do if all of the pitot tubes ice over?

Airbus A330-203 instructors in flight simulators faced with the same instrument readings successfully diagnosed the problem and correctly adjusted power and trim to prevent a crash. It would have been too dangerous to find that out in a real aircraft in flight.

The really good simulators, especially full motion ones are expensive. Most people who just fly for fun never get to fly a simulator they only fly real planes with an instructor until they get proficient enough to fly it on their own.

Once you have a simulator I would think it is much cheaper to use than a real plane but I don't know of any regular flight schools that have one. They use simulators a lot to recreate what happened in a plane crash to see if the crash could have been avoided.

Answers A+B both are correct.

Actual flying is expensive and dangerous for a new trainee.
