Yes they are edible. We don't eat them because they are rather greasy, very tough and not particularly tasty depending on the species, I'm told the smaller ones have more flavour. Some island populations have in the past had to rely on sea birds as a staple food source but only when other edible thing were not available.

Are Seagulls Edible

Most animals are edible, it's just not many people really want to eat a seagull! They don't have much meat on them, and probably don't taste nice if they're not on the mainstream market

All animal proteins are edible by humans, that is why we are known as omnivours. The reason seagulls are not used for the general nutrition for people is largely because they are scavenger birds and considered unclean.

Years ago my mother told me "you don't eat seagulls. There is a $35.00 fine for killing a seagull." They are protected by the law & wonder if the fine today is much more???????

I imagine they are edible and probably taste like chicken. I bet we would eat them if we got desperate enough. As it is, I guess we have enough other things to eat that no one much thinks about eating seagulls.

They are edible but apparently the flesh is really salty. You'd have to soak them in fresh clean water to get rid of the salt taste. a bit like a bacon joint.

Seagulls are not edible. They taste terrible. And they are protected under federal law. Also most scavengers taste bad except lobsters, shrimp and crabs.

If need must and I am certain someone must have tried. Afterall some societies eat rats. If your are lost and seagul is the only food available you will eat it.

We can eat them but we don;t eat them for the same reason we don;t eat alot of our smaller birds ....... not a lot of meat on them!

Also, mny seaguls live inland now and aren'y a lot better than pigeons when it comes to health and food consumption - would you eat a city pigeon?

Some people will eat anything. But I bet if you got caught

killing one and carting off with it,...you'd get into trouble. It's

a beach thing...we need um don't we ? I love hearing them

squak....plus they are employed by the city to clean up the

trash......lol

I'm actually wondering the same thing now and am having trouble finding factual information about it.

They probably are, however the crap they eat will probably make it a rather nasty meat. And possibly bad for you.

but like pigeon, the town types are rather nasty, However a woodland pigeon is a good meat.

Just depends on its food source i suppose.

If it was edible someone would of found some way to put it into our diet.
